Tomb of Damianos

In the 1920s a round tomb (monopteros) was excavated outside Ephesos, alongside the road to ancient Magnesia on the Meander. The excavator Josef Keil connected the monumental tomb with the famous Sophist Titus Flavius Damianos. During the course of a research fellowship by the Austrian Ministry of Sciences on Archaeology at the Austrian Archaeological Institute (Title: Hellenistic and Roman Monopteroi in Ephesus and Asia Minor), I could examine architectural elements of this building in the depot of the Efes Müzesi Selcuk.
